Microblading Aftercare & Contraindications
Microblading is a semi-permanent cosmetic treatment that involves implanting pigment into the skin. To achieve the best possible result and reduce the risk of complications, it is important to follow the pre-care and aftercare advice provided by Anna Microblading.
Please read the information below carefully before your appointment.
Before Your Appointment
To prepare for your microblading treatment, please follow the guidance below unless advised otherwise.
For at least 24 hours before treatment, please avoid:
• Alcohol
• Excessive caffeine
• Blood-thinning medication, unless prescribed by your doctor
• Intense exercise
• Sunbeds or strong sun exposure
For at least one week before treatment, please avoid:
• Waxing, tinting or threading the brow area
• Strong exfoliating products around the brows
• Retinol, acids or active skincare around the treatment area
• Chemical peels or laser treatments near the brow area
Please contact Anna Microblading before your appointment if you have recently had Botox, fillers, laser treatments, chemical peels, facial surgery or any other cosmetic procedure.
When Microblading May Not Be Suitable
Microblading may not be suitable if any of the following apply to you:
• You are under 18
• You are pregnant or breastfeeding
• You have diabetes
• You are taking blood-thinning medication
• You are taking or have recently taken isotretinoin or Accutane
• You have a blood disorder
• You have a compromised immune system
• You have a history of keloid scarring
• You have active eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, acne, infection, wounds, cuts or sunburn in the brow area
• You have an allergy to pigments, numbing products, latex or cosmetic products
• You are undergoing chemotherapy or other medical treatment
• You have recently had Botox, fillers, laser treatment, chemical peels or facial surgery
• You have previous microblading or tattooed brows that need correction
This list is not exhaustive. If you are unsure whether microblading is suitable for you, please contact Anna Microblading before booking. In some cases, written confirmation from your GP or medical professional may be required.
Immediately After Treatment
After your treatment, your brows may appear darker, bolder and more defined than expected. This is completely normal.
During the first few days, you may also experience:
• Mild redness
• Slight tenderness
• Dryness
• Tightness
• Light scabbing or flaking
• Darker colour before fading
The colour will soften as the skin heals.
Healing Process
The healing process is different for every client. Your brows may go through several stages, including:
• Looking very dark at first
• Becoming dry or flaky
• Appearing patchy
• Fading more than expected
• Looking lighter before the colour settles
These changes are normal and are part of the healing process. The final result can only be properly assessed once the skin has fully healed.
Aftercare Instructions
Please follow these aftercare instructions carefully:
• Keep the brow area clean and dry
• Do not touch the brows with unwashed hands
• Do not pick, scratch or remove any flakes or scabs
• Avoid makeup on or around the brows while healing
• Avoid swimming, saunas, steam rooms and hot tubs
• Avoid sunbeds and direct or strong sun exposure
• Avoid heavy workouts, excessive sweating and intense exercise for the advised period
• Avoid brow tinting, waxing or threading while the area is healing
• Avoid facial treatments, chemical peels and laser treatments around the brow area
• Avoid exfoliating products, retinol and acids around the brows
• Do not apply unapproved creams, oils or skincare products to the brows
• Avoid touching the brows unnecessarily
• Avoid sleeping directly on your face where possible
• Follow any specific aftercare instructions provided by Anna Microblading
Picking or scratching the brows may cause pigment loss, scarring, infection or poor healed results.
Signs of Possible Complications
Some mild redness, tenderness and dryness can be normal after treatment. However, you should contact Anna Microblading and seek medical advice if you experience:
• Severe swelling
• Increasing pain
• Pus or discharge
• Excessive redness or heat around the area
• Fever or feeling unwell
• A rash, hives or signs of an allergic reaction
• Symptoms that become worse instead of improving
If symptoms are severe or you feel unwell, seek medical advice immediately.
Long-Term Care
To help maintain your brows for as long as possible:
• Avoid excessive sun exposure
• Use SPF once the brows are fully healed
• Avoid strong skincare products directly over the brows
• Avoid frequent exfoliation over the brow area
• Follow the maintenance advice provided by Anna Microblading
Microblading naturally fades over time. Colour boost or maintenance appointments may be recommended to keep your brows looking fresh.
Top-Up Appointment
A top-up appointment is usually recommended around 4–6 weeks after your initial treatment. This appointment allows Anna Microblading to assess the healed result and make any necessary adjustments.
Without a top-up, the final result may be lighter, patchier or less defined.
Important Notice
Following the aftercare instructions is essential for achieving the best possible result. Anna Microblading cannot be held responsible for poor healing, pigment loss, infection or unsatisfactory results caused by a failure to follow the aftercare advice.
If you have any concerns during the healing process, please contact Anna Microblading as soon as possible.
